I really loved the book (as I wrote in a review earlier on) and I was happy when one of my travel companions announced he got the audio version with him. The next about two hours were very, very funny and I laughed a lot. I don’t know how much fun you have if you don’t know the book and don’t come from roughly the same area the plot is laid in (Schleswig-Holstein) but I guess as long as you got anything to do the punk in the broadest sense you might like it.

The best things about this double cd is that it isn’t really an audio book where someone gets locked into a studio and reads down the text but it is a live lecture by Rocko himself recorded in Lübeck, which is quite close to where the story is laid, on reading tour. The relative geographical closeness of big parts of the audience and the fact that Schamoni does use the real names of the places as opposed to the coded ones in the book help creating an open atmosphere which is captured by the room mics. Plus the author often breaks out of simply reading for telling some anecdotes. Fortunately he also doesn’t read the whole book either but rather focuses on the more action chapters mostly leaving out the “it’s so hard to go adult and find your own way” parts of the book. Double thumbs up! Perfect thing for long autobahn trips. [jan]
